Frome Lions held their annual sponsored swim on Sunday 8th March, at the Frome Sports Centre.
25 teams swam hard at the event, raising an estimated £6,000 to be split between their chosen causes and the Lions Charity Fund.
This ever popular annual event brought together new and old teams. First school swimmers steadily ticked off the lengths in the six man relay, whilst more competitive adult teams proved their fitness by trying to beat previous records for lengths swum in the allotted 25 minutes.
The Lions organising team turned out in force to ensure the smooth running and success of the evening, and even entered their own Past Presidents team under Lion Jim Dowling. Team mascot Dr John Moxon was on hand and assisted Lion Keith McLeod keep time and order with his siren.
Money from the Past Presidents team will benefit the RUH William Budd Endowment Fund, which is specifically supporting the purchase of a Positron Scanner, while other teams’ money will support the purchase of musical instruments, school equipment or projects that will improve quality of life.
The Lions would like to thank all teams for taking part, including teams from the schools of Upton Noble, Rode, St John’s and Selwood Academy, as well as locally based Frome Town Band, Frome Collegians, NVB Architects, Frome Netball Club, the Frome Medical Centre and the Oasis and Alien Carnival Clubs.
Funds from sponsors are now being collected, and cheques will be presented at a social evening to be held on Friday 17th April 2015 at 7.30pm, at the Catholic Hall, Park Road.
The Frome Lions wish to record their thanks to the Sports Centre for allowing the event to take place, to all the helpers, including first aid, and to Aggregate Industries who sponsored the event.
