THE Frome Society’s programme of Saturday afternoon talks in the Assembly Rooms behind the Memorial Theatre continues on Saturday 2nd March at 2.30pm with a talk by Mary Siraut on the Victoria County History of Somerset.
The Victoria County History was founded in 1889 as a national project, dedicated to Queen Victoria, to write the history of every parish in England. To date, it has published histories of 6,300 parishes, contained in 300 volumes.
The first volumes covering the parishes of Somerset were published in 1906 and there are now 11 volumes, but there is still a long way to go to complete coverage of the county. Mary, who works full time in a voluntary capacity as editor of the Victoria County History of Somerset, will tell the group about the project and her work preparing the next volume of parish history.
Visitors are very welcome to come to the Society’s talks but are asked to pay £5.
