As summer progresses, Frome Swimming Squads have not let the recent closure of their home pool keep them from achieving podium places.
At a recent open meet at Millfield School, Street. swimmers aged between 9 and 20 years made up a team of 15 enthusiastic competitors who achieved multiple personal bests and placed positions to take home Bronze, Silver and Gold medals.
“The medal tally was remarkable with each and everyone of the swimmers participating fully in the spirit of their chosen sport,” said Elizabeth McCulloch. “They showed courage, determination, encouragement of fellow squad members and displayed exemplary sportsmanship.
“Some of the youngest and newest competitive swimmers conquered their nerves and achieved some of their first medals as Frome Swimming Club swimmers.
“Daniel Hopkins, Hugo Jones and Alisha Freeman all at the age of nine years- old immersed themselves in the atmosphere and took on the challenge of swimming long course in a 50 metre pool.
“Results were fantastic and were a reminder for all the swimmers, parents, grandparents, coaches, teachers and volunteers that their commitment and ongoing training at various venues over the last nine months have not deterred their passion for swimming and is reflected in this recent success. Even those swimmers, who were unable to join their fellow club swimmers at this meet, continue to make a huge difference to the club and its drive for swimmers to enjoy their sport and achieve excellence.”
This meet follows the success recent at the one day short course meet ‘Blooming June’ which was a great development opportunity for many Southwest swimmers and an important event in the club’s calendar to help raise much needed funds to keep the club fees lower than many other clubs.
The momentum and excitement from the clubs own meet certainly helped the swimmers ongoing success. The medal haul summary for placed positions was as follows:
