MEMBERS of Frome Writers’ Collective are putting the finishing touches to the town’s first Small Publishers’ Fair which is being staged at the Silk Mill Studios in Saxonvale on Saturday 2nd July.
The fair, which will be one of the first events in this year’s Frome Festival programme, will bring together more than a dozen small, independent publishers and give local writers the chance to meet and talk to those who could help them get their work published. It will also give book lovers the chance to browse through the wide range of often specialist titles the publishers will have on show.
Frome Writers Collective was formed in 2014 with the aim of supporting and encouraging writers local to Frome on the often difficult journey first of all to complete their work, and then to achieve the goal of publication. It now has more than 80 members and at the fair it will introduce its own brand, Silver Crow Books. Silver Crow is a not-for-profit service which will act as a half-way house between traditional and self-publishing options. It will offer guidance, discounts from publishing partners, advice on marketing and collective publicity opportunities.
Silver Crow’s ‘official’ launch is expected to take place later this year when it’s hoped that three books, written by FWC members, will go on sale for the first time.
The fair, an all-day event which will be opened at 10am by Barry Cunningham, FWC patron and CEO at Chicken House, the much acclaimed Frome-based children’s book publisher, will complement the already strong writer-targeted content in the festival programme. The literary elements of the festival programme, which include the Writers in Residence competition also organised by Frome Writers’ Collective, are already widely recognised.
