THREE girls from Frome made and sold lemonade recently to raise money for food for refugees in Calais.
Kitt and Thea Whisstock and their friend Matilda Dembo did something a little different over the summer holiday and made their own lemonade and biscuits, sold them outside their house and donated the money to charity.
The girls made £50 and donated half to Frome counselling charity We Hear You, and the other half to RAISE – Refugee Action in Somerset East.
RAISE’s Christine Kaltoft said, “We were really pleased that the girls came to present their donation to RAISE and helped us load a van and caravan that were leaving to deliver aid to Calais. Their £25 donation funded a hamper of food for the new residents of the caravan, named ‘Raising Hope’. Raising Hope was funded entirely by donations from local people, and will be given to a family on the vulnerable persons list in the Jungle.”
RAISE still needs donations and regular drops are held in Frome. Rucksacks, wheelie suitcases, sleeping bags and mobile phones are most urgently needed at the moment.
Collections are made at Your Storage Space on Wallbridge every Monday from 2.30pm to 4.30pm and on the third Saturday of each month from 11am to 12.30pm. For full details go to www.raise.today
RAISE will also be holding a gig ‘Raising the Roof’ to raise funds for its work with refugees. The gig will be at the Silk Mill on 22nd October. Tickets are available from Hibiscus and Matico in Cheap Street, and online from Brown Paper Tickets.
