Work is underway to develop the Roundhouse Garden at The Other Side.
This is a linear pocket park running beside the river in Frome town centre, between Henley Way and Rossetti House care home, opposite Welshmill Park.
Groups of volunteers have begun to prepare the site for what will soon be a wildflower meadow, and dates have been announced for further working sessions to cultivate a seedbed and to sow the seed mixture.
Liz Hutchinson, FROGS supporter said, “Would you like to learn how a wildflower meadow is created? Just come along and lend a hand and discover what the process is. If you can, bring gardening gloves and tools – a wheelbarrow would be good too – though we do have some tools for people to use, and please wear suitable clothing and footwear, as it is likely to be muddy.”
The dates are: Friday 8th April, 2.00-4.00pm • Saturday 9th April, 10.00am-12.00noon • Saturday 16th April, 10.00am-12.00noon • Sunday 17th April, 2.00-4.00pm • Monday 18th April, 10.00am-12.00noon.
Liz added, “In April volunteers will help lift turf, create the wildflower garden, remove weeds from raised beds, and plant bushes. We plan to hold volunteer sessions on a regular day and time through the coming months to continue planting shrubs, herbs and climbers, and to maintain the wildflower meadow.
“The groups co-ordinating the work, Incredible Edible, the Apothecary Garden, FROGS and Frome Town Council, are very grateful for the offers of branches, stones and other materials from the people of Frome. Our big need now is for topsoil – if you can help, please contact us on: apothecarygardenfrome@gmail.com
“And thanks so much to all those who have already been along to give us a hand – we hope you enjoyed it and will come again!”
