THE Lions Club of Frome have erected a tree of Remembrance in front of Rook Lane Chapel in Bath Street where people can remember departed loved ones or memorable causes.
The tree was erected on Friday 1st December following a short carol service and tree blessing and will be available all over the festive period. Members of the public are invited to donate to the Lions’ charity fund in memory of a loved one or cause dear to their hearts at this special time of year. Each donor will receive a personal acknowledgement and the names and causes will be displayed on a dedication board at Rook Lane until early January.
This year all donations received will be used by the Lions to support a prostate cancer testing programme to be held in early 2024. Frome Lions held a similar programme in conjunction with the Somerset Prostate Support Association earlier this year when 251 men were tested. As a result of that session, 29 were referred to their own doctor for further tests which resulted in a number being referred onto cancer consultant and undergoing surgery
The Lions say, “We are indebted to NVB Architects for allowing the tree to be erected at Rook Lane chapel and to Local Builders from Faulkland, Stuart and Hazel Wyer, who have generously donated the tree.”
