FROME Royal British Legion members have thanked the local community for their generosity after raising a massive £31,900!
The Frome area Poppy Appeal organiser Richard Fry said, “After last year’s appeal broke the record for the total collected in Frome and district, I am pleased to let everyone know that once again we have collected over £30,000; to be precise at the time of writing, a fantastic £31.900,76!
“This will go toward helping people and their families who have served their country and may now need help from the RBL.
“None of this could be possible without the hard work and commitment of the many people and organisations who help, there are far too many individuals to name, but a special thank you must go to Frome Town Cricket Club, ‘the showmen’, for generously providing a room to store and sort out the items. A special thank you also to KRL Transport, incorporating Palletways on the Marston Trading estate for providing storage throughout the year and logistics in transporting pallets between Frome and the RBL warehouse in Aylesford.
“A special thank you to the Royal Navy CCF contingent based at Frome College, and Frome Army Cadets who were seen in their smart uniforms in the Westway shopping precinct, on both of the Saturdays of the appeal. One group were lucky with the weather, the others not so and got rather wet, but stuck to the task, well done! I won’t say who, but the Army response was, “they should be used to getting wet!”.
“And thanks also to Frome Independent Market who once again kindly gave a space for the Poppy Gazebo to be set up; it raised the profile of the appeal tremendously, as well as a good contribution to the total raised.”
