A well-known local history course is set to expand, due to popular demand, through to running in the evenings.
The 10-week course is run by Frome Community Education and looks at the town’s fascinating but, at times, controversial past.
It normally runs in the afternoon, and during the autumn term, but for the spring term this year it is being moved to later in the day.
The evening course begins on Monday 13th January and all sessions will be held upstairs at the Cheese & Grain.
The course will cover Frome’s history from before its founding by St Aldhelm up to the present day and there will be a chance to research your own project.
It is being tutored by well-known author, local historian, and regular Frome Times columnist, David Lassman.
David said, “The local history course has always proved very popular when it has run in the afternoon and hopefully, the evening one will prove the same.
“There have been many requests from people who want to learn about their town’s history, but who work during the day, so hopefully this will fulfill that need.
“It can also be a springboard to other things, as former participants have had articles and books published through their work on the course, as well as attaining prominent roles in local history organisations.”
David is the author of several books on the town, including ‘Frome in the Great War’ and ‘Foul Deeds & Suspicious Deaths in and Around Frome’.
His latest book ‘Frome at War 1939-45’ is due to be published by Pen & Sword later this month.
