FROME’S new mayor is cllr Mark Dorrington; the new deputy mayor is cllr Anita Collier.
The pair were elected into the roles at last week’s annual town meeting, which was the first meeting of the new town council made up of 17 Independents for Frome councillors, who were elected at the local elections earlier this month.
Speaking to Frome Times at the event, cllr Dorrington, who was previously the deputy mayor, said, “It is a great honour to be mayor. I know the town very well – my history with Frome goes back over 50 years. So using my knowledge of the town and my experience as deputy mayor I want to build on this, to create more opportunities for the council to support the town.
“I’m really interested in connecting with people who don’t already get reached by the council, people who have never accessed council services because they don’t think it is for them – I really want to go out into the community and show them what this council can do for them.
“I would also welcome any suggestions from residents about how the council could help more people in the community. Also, this new town council has 13 new councillors, so it is my role to help bring this council together – to harness the energy and enthusiasm of the council and help point it in the right direction so that this council can best help the town.”
Also at the meeting, councillors elected outgoing mayor, cllr Richard Ackroyd, as the leader of the council, and cllr Anne Hills as deputy leader.
