MONEY which was presented to a local charity by the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB) is being put to good use.
Frome’s Positive Action on Cancer (PAC) fundraiser, Kelly Hall, received the cheque for £3,753.27 from Charlie Miller, the local group’s Provincial Grand Primo, in March. The ceremony was held at the Warminster Civic Centre where local MPs and the Grand Primo of all England were present.
PAC had been the group’s charity of the year during Charlie’s time in office. The money is now being spent on providing counselling to adults in Frome affected or bereaved by cancer and other life threatening illnesses. The donation will pay for two counselling sessions every week during this financial year.
Kelly said, “The money raised by the RAOB has been allocated to the provision of two of our weekly counselling sessions in Frome – this will benefit 15 people affected by serious illness over the course of the year. We were delighted with the donation and this really is making a difference to our work.
“We currently provide 60 counselling sessions every week and don’t receive any government funding. Therefore, every donation is so important to us and we are very grateful to Charlie and his colleagues for all of their fundraising efforts.”
PAC is currently the only organisation to offer free professional counselling to any adults or children affected or bereaved by cancer and other life threatening illnesses in BANES, Somerset and West Wilts.
