Selwood Academy has been preparing their outdoor production of the Sondheim musical ‘Into the Woods’. The show will take place on the school lawn in wooded surroundings from June 29th to July 2nd from 7pm.
The school reports, “Into the Woods is an eclectic mix of fairy tales, including well-known characters such as Little Red Riding Hood, Jack of beanstalk fame and Cinderella, to mention but a few.
“The pupils at Selwood have not only been working hard learning their lines and characterisation, but have had the opportunity to create a large portion of the set itself. Large letters that make up the title ‘Into the Woods’ have been woven out of willow by a group of around 30 pupils from all year groups. The lettering was first designed by artist and illustrator Sholto Walker before willow artist Mary Cross led the pupils through the process of willow weaving. The finished letters look incredible and will provide the cast and audience with a unique backdrop to the production.
“Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Book by James Lapine. Originally directed on Broadway by James Lapine. Orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick.
