The Bath Skiffle band, together with some local Frome skifflers, will perform for the first time in Frome.
This event will be held at The Three Swans pub on Friday 18th October from 8pm
Organisers say, “Skiffle is the name given to the first pop music in Britain that used guitars, the first DIY music movement to go national, the first rock craze, the soundtrack to the first teenage kicks. It was punk before punk, and rock before rock.
“The list of musicians who started in skiffle is a list of greats – the Beatles, Van Morrison, Jimmy Page, Hank Marvin, Cliff Richard – but skiffle was a movement that was about normal kids on everyday streets making music on a cheap guitar and household objects. It is about the thousands of people who learned music because they heard the rhythm and couldn’t help but join in. It is still the same today.
“The Bath and Frome Skifflers are musicians and singers of all abilities and backgrounds who simply enjoy making music together. This is mainly American folk – Leadbelly, Woody Guthrie and so on – and the music by the people who inspired this tradition. They play Lonnie Donnegan, The White Stripes, Bruce Springsteen…
“So come along to listen or dance or join in. Bath skifflers are friendly, enthusiastic and above all fun. See you on the 18th. For further information, contact Andrew Hardy on email hardypop@hotmail.com
