FROME Community Education is all set to launch their Summer Term with most courses starting from Monday 24th April. Their regular weekly programme includes a wide range of arts and crafts courses, language classes, health and well-being courses, pottery and creative writing classes.
Julia Blaker, who runs a weekly ‘Imperfect Painting with Acrylics’ course is already looking forward to the new term. “I’m really excited to be able to continue running art classes to inspire people to discover their creative side, have fun while learning about art and make lots of mess!”
Student Janet Smith says she enjoys the class because she is encouraged to play; “it’s just like being at primary school!”. Fellow student Lyn Powley likes the fact that “it takes me out of my comfort zone, which can be quite scary, but very rewarding.” A new 10-week course of Imperfect Painting with Acrylics starts on Friday, 28th April, with beginners welcome.
Frome Community Education have also introduced several new courses this term. These include ‘Climate Change, How Does it Concern Me and Mine?’ This course, with new tutor, Matthew Bennett will examine key facts about what is driving climate change and will then focus on those of most interest to members of the class, with a specific emphasis on what we can do individually and as a local community to help mitigate the impacts.
There are several new arts and crafts classes. ‘Painting that Calms the Soul’ makes a welcome return this year with tutor Jeanette Magson who will try to take away the stresses of your day by sharing watercolour techniques in a creative and calming environment. Printmaking Play will explore a wide range of printmaking techniques with Michael Gill of the Frome Art School. Catherine Beale returns with a new ‘Dive into Watercolours!’ one-day workshop on the theme of ‘Harbour Scene in Line and Wash’. Collage Tutor, Jessica Wilker, is running a new one-day workshop ‘Celebrating Playfulness with Collage Art’. Book early as these new classes frequently sell out.
