The Words on Stage event at the Merlin Theatre (Friday 4th November at 7.45pm) sees the launch of local writer Rosie Jackson’s new memoir ‘The Glass Mother’ – and much more!
For three years, while working on her own book, Rosie tutored a group of local people who all had their own stories to tell. Under her guidance, ten have completed memoirs, some of which are now published under Rosie’s new imprint, Yarn Press, set up with the help of one of the group, Tim Cutting. Another member, Denis Ostler, who has just turned ninety, is a retired vet; his memoir, A Lucky Man, is among those published.
Eight of the ten writers will be joining Rosie on stage to read short extracts from their books, while Rosie will be reading from ‘The Glass Mother.’ The readings take place on stage at the Merlin in a bistro-style setting, with tables on stage. Tickets – £11.50, including a tapas supper, or £5.50 for a seat in the auditorium (no meal) – can be booked at www.merlintheatre.co.uk or by phoning 01373 465949.
Helping others to bring their stories to print is an ongoing commitment for Rosie, who is now working with a second group of writers.
