Comedy fans are in for a treat as six comedians are set to perform their pre-view shows for this year’s Edinburgh Festival at the Merlin Theatre.
Theatre director, Claudia Pepler has wanted to organise an event like this for a few years, so is delighted to be working with Avalon Promotions to arrange this special event.
Claudia said, “I’d advise people to keep an eye on the website or join the mailing list as we are adding new events to the calender all of the time.
“We have more comedy planned for the autumn which is yet to be announced, it’s all very exciting.”
The three night event starts on Monday 13th June with Gareth Richards and Naz Osmanoglu. Gareth won a Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards best newcomer nominee 2010 for his sixth solo show of hilarious stand-up, and gorgeously low-key comedy songs. Gareth has made appearances on Russell Howard’s Good News and Live at the Electric (BBC3) and heard on Frank Skinner’s Sony award-winning Absolute Radio show, and BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 4. He is presenting his show ‘The Halo Effect’.
Naz Osmanoglu’s Edinburgh Fringe preview is called ‘Exposure’. No stranger to TV, Naz is the loudest member of sketch group WitTank, star of Flat TV (BBC Three), Live at the Electric (BBC Three), Plebs (ITV2) and Bull (UKTV) Horrible Histories (CBBC), Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC3) & Drunk History (Comedy Central).
The second night, Tuesday 14th June, features Adam Hess with his work in progress ‘Feathers’ After his Fosters award-nominated, sell-out debut show, Adam Hess, star of Live at the BBC, is back and he’s cooler and taller than ever! He’s a funny guy, has good manners and no matter how dark or light it is when he leaves the cinema he’s always surprised.
Steve Bugeja joins him with ‘Unpronounceable’ a work in progress. Steve has a bag for life, he remembers it every single time. That’s not even his best chat up line and only the third coolest thing about him. BBC New Comedy Award winner, as heard on BBC Radio 4 and seen on BBC Three.
The final night, Wednesday 15th June, brings Jarlath Regan with his show ‘Arseways’. Frome Live At The Palladium to the Merlin, Jarlath Regan presents a celebration of screwing up. An hour of “ sublime standup” (Evening Standard) in praise of failing and failing better while flicking the V sign to everyone focussed on being perfect.
Last and by no means least comedienne Annie McGrath presents her Fringe preview ‘The Seven Ages of An’. Annie who is one half of sketch duo Twins, presents her debut stand-up show. Annie has written and performed on ITV2’s @elevenish, Channel 4’s Girl’s Go Trolling and BBC Radio 4 Extra.
