Batcombe Film Society will be screening two films in November; ‘Carol’ and ‘Tangerines’.
On Friday 4th November, ‘Carol’ directed by Todd Hayes, 2015/120 mins/15 will be shown.
Omniart is a small group of experienced, self-motivated experimental artists, who meet each Friday at Bulkington Village Hall to paint and exchange views. The emphasis is on encouraging each member to develop his/her own individual style of creative expression through mutual support and honest feedback. Members’ work ranges through realism, expressionism, surrealism and abstract art. We hold regular exhibitions and are looking forward to showing our work at the Art House Cafe during November.
Then on Friday 18th, ‘Tangerines’ directed by Aberrahmane Sissako, 2014/110mins/12A will be shown.
It is 1992 and the Georgians are fighting the Russian-backed Abkhazians in the Caucasus; most of the villagers have left but elderly Estonian farmers, Ivo and his friend Margus, have stayed to harvest their crop of tangerines. As the conflict rages, Ivo reluctantly takes in two injured soldiers, one from each side. Initially, the fighters vow to kill each other but their extended period of convalescence has a humanizing effect, Set against a beautiful landscape defiled by war, this is a moving anti-war film. (Estonian/ Russian/ Georgian with subtitles)
