FROME Drama will be performing A Bunch of Amateurs, at the Merlin Theatre from Thursday 25th April to Saturday 27th April.
A Bunch of Amateurs started life as a film in 2008 before being adapted for the stage by Ian Hislop and Nick Newman. It is a laugh-out-loud comedy jampacked with hilarious moments and comedic characters.
Keen to boost his flagging career, fading Hollywood action hero Jefferson Steel arrives in England to play King Lear in Stratford, only to find that rather than the birthplace of the bard, he has arrived in a sleepy Suffolk village to perform with a bunch of amateurs. As Jefferson’s ego is tested to the limit, and his career implodes, he discovers some truths about himself along with his inner Lear.
The production is directed for Frome Drama by Richard Wright, who is highly experienced in the world of theatre. Richard said, “Nick Newman, who co-wrote the play with Ian Hislop, called it a love letter to amateur dramatics, and we have tried to be faithful to that romantic idea. We love doing this. Why else would we spend four to five months working at it, trying to get it ‘fit for purpose’, as they say?
“We hope that the effort is worth it in your eyes and ears, and that you enjoy your evening with us. You really are very welcome, especially if you like a laugh!”
The cast includes Michael Hoskinson, Katherine Symonds-Moore, James Moore, Becki Bradley, Tabitha Bradley, Stephen East, Daisy Dugmore and Kara Mia Vernon.
