Frome Jazz Club is back! There will be a few changes, but it will keep its signature approach – professional players, intimate venues, friendly atmosphere and free entry.
Keith Harrison-Broninski said, “Thank you all for your patience and for the many expressions of support during our year off.
“First, Frome’s well-known pianist John Law is now working with us to arrange the gigs, and will appear regularly. John has been a favourite performer at the club since it started, and will now be able to use his contacts at the top of the jazz world to bring new and exciting players to Frome. We will be mixing it up to keep things fresh, with a wide variety of themes, players, and playing styles.
“Second, in order to keep entry free but the quality high, we need to treat professional players properly, keep pianos tuned, and generally cover our expenses. So from now on we’ll put a hat round at each gig. We hope that anyone who is enjoying the music would be happy to buy a drink for one or two of the musicians, and will put in about the same amount.
“Third, we want to make it easier for people to know when they can hear live jazz locally. So going forward Frome Jazz Club will work closely with others who put on jazz in Frome, such as the Cornerhouse pub. We’re aligning our schedules so that there will be jazz every Sunday in the town, and there is a new Facebook page for Jazz in Frome that includes events from both Frome Jazz Club and partners. To make it possible for Frome Jazz Club itself to run events as often as possible, we will appear in different venues, including the Griffin pub and the Cheese & Grain bar. If you would like to get event details by email, join our emailing list.
The first date of the new Frome Jazz Club will be Sunday 12th March, 7:30-9:30pm at the Griffin pub in Milk Street, featuring a player who always brings the house down – guitarist Andy Christie. We’ll be revisiting legendary grooves from the 60s and 70s for a night of New York Funk.
“For more upcoming gigs, see our Facebook page. We look forward to seeing you soon!”
