Less than 100 days to go….until Christmas!
And Emma Warren, on behalf of Frome’s Big Christmas Get-Together advises, “I know it’s too early to mention the ‘C’ word out loud, but just to let you know that Frome’s Big Christmas Get-Together will be happening again this year.
“We are hosting a new event in October to meet people who would like to come along and help, support or take part in Christmas plans. We need more help planning this year’s Christmas event, and would welcome volunteers who have time over the next few months to help with preparations.
“On Sunday 5th October, the Frome Independent Market is planning a special Harvest Festival, a local celebration of food in our community. Frome’s Big Christmas Get-Together will have a stand with more information about Christmas Day and will be launching our call for volunteers at Christmas, with forms available from our stall in the Westway.
“We will also be organising a grand ‘Cake Off Competition’ and need your help on Sunday 5th October between 10.00am – 3.00pm. Our team will offer drinks, manage the cake entries, and then help host a shared afternoon tea for the local community. Please bring along your best cakes for this community fun competition! Why not invite your friends or challenge your work colleagues?
“We welcome all entries on the day between 10.00am and 12.30pm, and there will be three categories; junior, adult and professional. All the entered cakes will be judged by Angela Langford (finalist from 2014 Masterchef) and the Bakemonger (local artisan baker). Our community twist, is that all cakes will then be shared out that day, as part of a new event, Frome’s Big Afternoon Tea.
“A host of other activities will take place at Harvest on the 5th October including weird and wonderful vegetable competitions, children’s crafts, conker challenges, Morris dancers, the Apple Day team, talks and demonstrations about cheese making, cider pressing, foraging, butchery, bee keeping and much more. We are working closely with Fair Frome, who will have a stand next to ours with information about the local Food Bank, a recipe exchange and warm soup available.
“Can you let me know: • If you are around on Sunday 5th October and able to help for an hour or two between 8.30am – 3.30pm, especially setting up/clearing up? • Do you have any bunting we could borrow? • Can you make a few scarecrows on poles to theme the harvest area? • Can you bring along any flowers, baskets or harvest produce to brighten up our stall?
“So save the date, tell your friends, bake a cake and come join us for Frome’s Big Afternoon Tea – a great community gathering at this special Harvest event…everyone is invited on Sunday 5th October!
“Local newspapers and Facebook will provide more information over the next few weeks. I will keep in touch and email Christmas volunteer forms at the beginning of October – Facebook.com/fromesbigchristmas or Twitter @fromechristmas
