FROME Street Carnival is hosting a fundraising fun day next week which is jam-packed full of fun for all the family.
The free event in Victoria Park will be held on what would have been this year’s carnival day, Saturday 25th September, and visitors can enjoy stalls, performances from local musicians and dance groups, ‘have a go’ workshops, train rides, and much more.
As part of the event, there will also be a fun family dog show, sponsored by Bellevue Vets, with many titles up for grabs, including ‘Best in Show’ and ‘Best Puppy.’ Visitors are also being encouraged to come to the fun day in fancy dress or in past carnival costumes.
Money raised from the event will go towards next year’s carnival, which the committee has promised will be ‘bigger and better than ever.’
The carnival committee says, “This is a free entry event for all the family, and as we realise that it has been so difficult for any fundraising over the past 18 months, we have offered local charities, groups and carnival clubs a free pitch for their fundraising stalls.
“We have been supported by the Frome Town Council, who will be hosting a variety of ‘have a go’ workshops – for example pottery making – amongst many other fun activities. There will be train rides, many refreshments, including an ice cream van, barbecue and tea/refreshment tent, and we are pleased to confirm that the fabulous Ava Bar will also be returning.
“There will be a variety of stalls from carnival clubs and local groups. Entertainment will be from our local DJ Pete Damon Johns, some of your favourite Star Wars characters, displays from The Frome Town Band, Frome Cheerleaders, Eurphoria (a newly-formed dance group performing for the first time) and the Phoenix Twirlstars.
“We are also inviting people to attend in fancy dress/past carnival costumes if they wish to.”
The carnival’s family fundraising day is on Saturday 25th September from 12noon to 6pm – entry is free. Registration for the dog show is from 12noon, with judging starting at 1pm. Entry is £2.50 per category, or £10 for five categories.”
Carnival fundraising madness continues!
This month’s fundraising fun day is one of many events organised by the carnival committee to raise funds for next year’s procession.
As well as the monthly pub quiz, which is being held at the Masons Arms, the committee has also announced that its annual duck race will be returning next month.
The committee says, “As most of you are aware, the Frome Street Carnival committee had to make the difficult decision to cancel the street procession for the second year running.
“Not only is this disappointing for the committee, the carnival clubs and the many people who get together every year with their friends and family to watch and support the carnival, it is of course very disappointing for the many local charities, groups and organisations who benefit every year from the thousands of pounds of donations that are collected from the buckets and tins during the street collections.
“Although most restrictions are now lifted, there hasn’t been enough time for the carnival clubs to build and make their entries, but the fundraising needed to cover the costs to host and co-ordinate the carnival also hasn’t been able to take place.
“Therefore, the committee is hard at work, organising several fundraising events throughout the year, to help get the 2022 carnival back on the road, bigger and better than ever.
“The fundraising efforts have made a good start with a very successful monthly pub quiz, which has been held at the Masons Arm, for the past three months. Thank you to everyone who has supported and helped make this such a success. We hope to continue these monthly quizzes indefinitely.
“We have also recently announced that our annual duck race will also be returning and will be held on Sunday 3rd October, 2pm from Button Bridge in the Market Yard.
“You can purchase a duck for just £1 each, each are numbered and the first duck to swim across the finish line will win their lucky sponsor £50, second prize £30 and third price £10.
“To sponsor a duck, please come and visit our carnival tent on the fundraising fun day (25th September), or ducks can be purchased on the day of the race, from our stall in the Market Yard car park.”
