Frome’s Light the Night lantern parade project, which was conceived by Aliss Vaas and Mel Day, is back for the third year. Frome Town Council is also supporting the project this year.
There are community workshops happening at The Welshmill Hub, Frome Library, Frome Town Hall and Trinity Church Hall.
The first workshops are on Saturday 26th October from 10am-12.30pm and 1.30-4pm at Trinity Church Hall and Saturday 2nd November from 10am-12pm at Frome Library.
More workshops are available on Thursday 7th November from 4-7pm at the Welsh Mill Hub, Sunday 17th November from 10am-12.30pm at the Welsh Mill Hub, Tuesday 26th November from 4-7pm at the Welsh Mill Hub and finally Wednesday 27th November from 4pm-7pm at Frome Town Hall.
Organiser Mel Day says, “The workshops are free but we are asking for a contribution to materials. Lantern-making kits will be available in the workshops and at Frome Town Hall, Discover Frome Information point and SHARE:Frome, so that you can make them at home. Lantern-making kits start at just £3 – the money goes back into the project, helping us to run it next year.
“Thanks to donations from last year’s project, we’re able to fund some free kits which are being distributed by Fair Frome.
“Look out for the spectacular Boudicca lantern, which was made with employees from local company, Johnson Controls. She is based on J. W. Singer’s statue that was made in Frome and is based at Westminster Bridge, London. She leads the lantern parade just behind the wonderful Jamma de Samba – they get our celebrations off to a great start as people can’t resist the beat!
“We hope to see an amazing array of lit willow and paper lanterns parading through the streets of Frome, on November 29th when the Christmas lights get switched on. Come and join in the lantern parade or be a spectator and watch the whole event.”
