Composed hundreds of years ago by a Neapolitan, La Zingarella has only just been discovered and adapted for modern audiences with Italian singing and funny English dialogues. Leonardo Leo’s La Zingarella, will be performed at the Trinity Church, Frome, on Saturday 15th July at 7.30pm.
An Neapolitan falls in love with a charming girl who offers to read his palm. What happens next? Come and find out. The first half of the evening will include music by Mozart, Pachelbel and others.
This performance, with the London Gala Orchestra, is part of a larger tour – Leytonstonstone Festival Buxton Fringe, and then Wales, Italy and Poland from August onwards.

The international cast is led by conductor, Stephen Ellery, who studied in Leningrad (Russia) and Polish baritone Lukasz Biela. Staged by award- winning director Maarten van der Duin from Holland.

Stephen Ellery conducts orchestras all around the world include Japan, Mexico, Poland and Germany where during the past three years he has performed in all the major venues including the Berlin Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Munich Philharmonic.
Last month he conducted La Traviata in Vienna and in September he conducts in Carnegie Hall, New York.
In 1989 on the day the Berlin Wall was opened, he played sax on top of the Wall and this image was seen in newspapers by millions.
