Somerset Storyfest, now in its sixth year, will be offering an evening of Word and Sound at the Frome Steiner Academy this Sunday, 19th March.
The ‘Stories Untold, Music Unheard’ evening for adults will be performed by seven members of Wild Words, a collective of professional storytellers, musicians, poets and fools.
The theme will be ‘The cycle of human life from birth to death, in between and beyond’.
A selection of original music, poems and stories will sit, sing and dance alongside traditional tales and music inspired by other cultures.
Bristol based multi-instrumentalist Martin Solomon (Pindrop Band) will be playing an original piece inspired by his recent trip to Assam featuring the violin played in ‘Indian style’.
Local storyteller Rebecca Smart will be weaving her magic in a bewitching Irish tale of betrayal, love, longing and the ‘birth of poetry and creativity’, whilst storyteller and fool Simon Blakeman (TheatreSpace) will be sharing his retelling of the White Owl, as ‘Silent wings fly through our dreaming to hunt, remember and to love’.
Frome based musician Tom Veck (Rocktopus) will be offering a serving of original songs from his recent album as well as a ‘created in the moment’ piece inspired by audience suggestion, whilst James Watts will be ‘Weaving the Cloth of Ancestral Songlines’ with an eclectic mix of instruments including the haunting woodwind duduk of Armenia.
Original poetry from Claire Coleman whose poems reflect ‘A thoughtful response to the rhythms of the natural world, caught during the unheeding busyness of our days’ and an ‘unknown story squirming below the ground’ from Storyfest director Michael Loader will complete this unique gathering.
The evening starts at 7.30pm and tickets can be bought in advance for £6 at www.somersetstoryfest.co.uk or are available on the door. There is limited seating and a good turn out is expected, so book early to avoid disappointment.
