FROME Concerts Group will be holding a special spring concert next weekend with the Aquinas Piano Trio.
The full length concert will take place at Rook Lane Chapel from 3pm on Saturday 11th March.
The Aquinas piano trio is led by multi award-winning violinist Ruth Rogers, who enjoys a very varied playing career and has recently been appointed the leader of The London Mozart Players.
Cellist Katherine Jenkinson is a highly regarded performer who plays on an instrument made in 1703, just 4 years before the building of Rook Lane Chapel was completed.
Martin Cousin completes the line-up, widely regarded as one of the most exceptional pianists of his generation, regularly to be seen as a concerto soloist with major orchestras such as The Halle.
Chair of Frome Concerts Group, Duncan Skeene said, “Since forming in 2009, The Aquinas Piano Trio has steadily built a reputation as one of the most enjoyable classical music ensembles see live.
“Something magical happens when Ruth, Katherine and Martin get together: they are so fully engaged with each other, totally focused, visibly enjoying the cut and thrust of playing together. This is really thrilling to watch as well as to hear.
“We hope that many music-lovers will be delighted by this surprise last minute addition to our schedule.
“This will be a very special concert because they will be performing two of the best-loved compositions for piano trio. Neither of these pieces has been heard live in Frome for at least twenty years. Beethoven’s piano trio Op 97, known as ‘The Archduke’, will be paired with Schubert’s piano trio Op 100 in E flat major. The Beethoven is famously expansive, combining lyricism with symphonic scale, while the Schubert, his last piece to be published before his death, is simply a tour de force.
“At £16 (age 21 or younger: £8) this concert is a snip and an opportunity that really should not be missed. FCG has often been asked to put on more concerts, so we are hoping for a full house.”
Doors open at 2.30pm on the day of the concert with the bar available before the concert and during the interval.
Subject to availability, tickets will be on sale at the door (cash sales only) or to be sure of a seat they can be ordered in advance by sending a cheque (payable to Frome Concerts Group) together with a stamped and addressed envelope to FCG, Zachary’s Mill, Egford Hill, Frome BA11 3JP.
