SOME of Frome’s best known musicians will be launching a new band at The Cornerhouse on Friday 3rd November.
The new band ‘Bowl of Thrills’ features Amelia Pereira on vocals and percussion, John Ruddock on guitar, Vicki Burke on soprano saxophone and vocals and Wilf Waterhouse on bass.
The band plays a heady mix of Parisian jazz, Gypsy folk, and Baroque pop, much of which is a complete departure for many of the members who would be better known for styles including funk, punk, metal and folk.
Some of the band members have traditionally been associated with locally-based acts such as Fat Stanley, Flash Harry, Bonne Nouvelle and Ghosts of the Avalanche. Amelia Pereira the driving force behind the new project says, “I guess that most people in the area are used to seeing me behind a drum kit with some pretty loud bands, but this new project is quite a departure for me and the other members. I think that the Frome audience is going to be rather surprised and hopefully delighted too.”
Bowl of Thrills have been in rehearsal since early 2017 and are now ready to unleash themselves on the Frome public. Playing music, much of which is written by the elusive Andrew Bird, their debut gig at The Cornerhouse sees them joined by support band Ninotchka who play a fast and furious set of Gypsy, Klezmer and Irish folk – as fast as their instruments will let them.
The music starts at 8.30pm, entry is free and the hat will be passed round during the gig.
